To take us through the last four months of 2025 we have four very good films all based on equally good books. If they have a common theme it is trying to cope with difficult circumstances and social issues. The films are shown at 7pm on the following Fridays. As usual there is no charge but donations are always welcome.

Friday 12 September.
To Kill A Mockingbird PG.
Based on the Harper Lee book, this is often regarded as one of the best films
ever made. Gregory Peck won the Oscar as best actor and the book won the
Pulitzer Price.
Friday 3 October.
The Book Thief 12A.
Set in Nazi Germany during World War II, a story of loss, literacy and love. Stars
Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
Friday 7 November.
The Butler 12A.
Based on Eugene Allen’s writings about a black butler in the White House. A
stellar cast includes John Cusack, Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams, Jane Fonda
and Forest Whitaker. Directed by Lee Daniels.

Julianne Moore won the best actress Oscar playing a brilliant professor, who
aged fifty, suffered early on-set Alzheimer’s disease.
