Films for 2020 showing in The Bridge
As usual all films start at 7pm and are generally (but not quite always) on the first Thursday and third Friday of the month. This programme includes many films you will have seen before but perhaps not recently. They were good films at the time and probably still are.
Thursday 5th December. Brooklyn. 12.
This heroine moves from small town Ireland to New York and back again. Directed by John Crowley, screenplay Nick Hornby, book by Colm toibin. Saoirse rowan, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen.
Friday 20th December : The Grand Budapest Hotel. 15
Written and directed by Wes Anderson it recounts stories remembered by the concierge in the years between two world wars. Large and stellar cast include; Ralph Fiennes, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, tom Wilkinson, Tilda Swinton and Saoirse Ronan.
Thursday 2nd January. The Post. 12
The story of Watergate and the Washington Post which broke the story. Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks.
Friday 17th January, Munich. 15. In 1972 terrorists killed Israeli athletes at the Olympic Games. Steven Spielberg records the events and what happened next.
Thursday 6th February. Sunset Song. 15 Directed by Terence Davis an acclaimed film of the great novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon It is set in north east Scotland around the time of World War 1.
Friday 21st February. The Name of the Rose. 18. Medieval murder mystery starring Sean Connery as the monk who solves it.
Thursday 5th March. A Beautiful Mind. 12. Oscar winning story of the mathematician John Nash. Stars Russell Crowe.
Friday 20th March. The Thin Red Line. 15. Set in World War II at the battle of Guaral Canal, the story of a small group of American Soldiers for whom survival is the objective. Stars Sean Penn and directed by Terrence Malick.
Thursday 2nd April. Mystic River. 15. Another Sean Penn film but this time directed by Clint Eastwood who even wrote the music. A murder unexpectedly brings three school friends back together.
Friday 17th April. Angels and Demons. 12. This is a follow up book by Dan Browne and follow up film to the Da Vinci Code. It stars
Thursday 7th May The King's Speech. 12. Colin Firth plays King George V1, Helena Bonham Carter is Queen Elizabeth and Geoffrey Rush is the Speech Therapist.
Friday 22nd May. L'illusionniste PG. Based on a script by Jaques Tati, a French animation by Sylvian Chomet, mostly set in Scotland.
